Still Life Art always tells a story. The artistic depiction of mundane, everyday objects imbues them with some new meaning, making them suddenly interesting and this is true when depicting only single objects. When other objects are added a certain psychological connection begins. The artist then becomes what he should be, a story teller. My arrangements often begin as "Vanitas" still life, than go further. I may use objects as metaphor but also may include them merely to help balance a composition. An object's purpose in the composition may be easily understood, while others are more ambiguous, or personal. And often, while arranging elements with some goal in mind, an object that had a certain, symbolic meaning when I first chose it suddenly is seen in a new context when included with other, often very dissimilar elements. I never like to explain what my work "means" simply because I don't want to get in the way of the viewers experience. Still Life Art always tells a story. My wish is that when you view this work, it prompts you to make up your own story.
